About HATE. Insensitivity towards Japan's Earthquake and Tsunami Victims

I know this is not Sci Fi Scale Modeling related, but I need to write this. Japan was recently struck by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake which brought about a tsunami from hell that virtually wiped out villages from the map. Death toll is estimated to pass well over 15,000 people and tens of thousands more are displaced. And as if these disaster were not enough, the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor is in danger of a nuclear meltdown, casting radioactive cloud over the food chain and further poisoning the land. Everyday the people there struggle to make sense of the disaster and to try to move on with their lives. Compounded with a cold front and a blizzard, victims grouped together despite their misery and despair.

When I read about such things and looking at all the images, I can't help but wallow in disbelieve and grief. I can't help it when I get very concern for my fellow Japanese friends, some whom may have lost their parents, sisters, brothers, children and friends. How are they going to cope? Are they going to be OK? The sheer magnitude of the damages and loss is so huge that its so amazing the Japanese remained calm, with no massive riots and looting reported, and citizens patiently lining up for food and fuel. The few cases that was reported only shows the desperate conditions the victims have to live through. It is truly a beautiful view of the Japanese culture amidst the ruins and devastation.

Hence I was appalled seeing that there were still people who reverted to "Karma" justifying the Earthquake and Tsunami that wiped out Sendai, and other villages in Japan as divine retribution. Reference to the Japanese soldier's atrocities of Nanking, and the surprise attack on Pearl Harbour, started surfacing in forums and Facebook. It got me so flabbergasted. I am trying to understand how some people could wish ill toward these Japanese victims, all because of the sins of their grandparents. Did not Jesus say "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"? It is divinity we are talking about here, right?

The pain and suffering that occurred during World War II is without any doubt a dark chapter in human history, when there were no rules of engagement and chaos and fear ruled. Survivors had to live through the ordeal for the rest of their natural lives. My own parents lived through the Japanese Occupation when they were children, and told me various stories of inhumane cruelty. So I can understand then if victims of WWII despise the Japanese so much that they will never forgive Japan. After all, what they did caused scars to run very deep. But wait, didn't the comfort women from both Korea and Thailand got together and prayed for the victims of the Sendai tsunami? I mean come on, these women were direct victims, and yet, they still could find forgiveness and compassion within their hearts. So if they could do it, what does that speak of those who can't and wasn't even there in WWII? How long do you wish to carry this hate?

In my attempt to understand why some people feel this way, I listened to their rationale to justify their hate and only found grim descriptions of what the Japanese soldiers did to the people of Nanking during WWII (not disputing this historical fact of course). I do agree that the Japanese soldiers involved then, along with their superiors and commanders, are guilty and liable for their atrocities. They will answer to God for their deeds, but here's a whammy. Te new generation of Japanese don't even know what happened during the war. It was kept from them. The ordinary senior citizens were also kept in the dark, being fed lots of propaganda by their own govt then. How do I know this? Make friends with the Japanese. Talk to them. The ordinary people are no different from you and me, and you'll be surprised at what they were taught in school. Does this make them guilty?

As for Pearl Harbour, I can see mentions of "Never Forget" statements referring to the Japanese surprise attack that got America involved with WWII. Payback is a bitch no doubt, but exactly how many times must the Japanese pay back? Japan lost the war, they lost their country, they lost their humility, and they were at the receiving end of two atomic bombs. That's what they got for stirring the hornet's nest. And now the recent tragedy is karma for their attack on Pearl Harbour again? Would it satisfy those that keep saying "never forget" over and over if Japan literally sank into the ocean like Atlantis, and totally disappear from the face of the earth? Only a sadist would wish ill on the unfortunate. Think about it, did any Japanese commented that America deserved the Hurricane Katrina tragedy that nearly devastated New Orleans? Well, we are on the topic of karma, and surely something must have happened to warrant that disaster if these people want to use karma to warrant their claim for this one.

It makes absolutely no sense then to say this is divine retribution. Remember, a lot of the Japanese today are as innocent as you and me. And a lot of us were not even around during WWII. At most, we can lobby to force the Japanese government to acknowledge their wartime atrocities and apologise, but no one have any right to say this is divine retribution.

A good friend of mine summed up this situation aptly. Japan literally lies on top of the ring of fire, and the country will no doubt experience many earthquakes and tsunamis. They have been experiencing it as early as when that land was colonized, with historical records indicating that some of these were worse than the recent 9.0 magnitude earthquake. This means that Japan will continue to experience more earthquakes and tsunamis by virtue of their unfortunate location. To say then that the recent tragedy were divine retribution only reflect on ignorance and arrogance. Kind of make that person looks silly.

As for me, I rather not dwell on hate. Nothing good ever came out of hate. It'll eat you up bit by bit, consume anything and everything that is positive, making your life miserable to the extent no one wants to be near you. Life gets shortened and whatever joy escapes you.

So I leave it to the individual what they want to believe. Life's already too short to waste on hate. In the here and now, everyone have the chance to make this world a better place to live. All they need to do is have a heart. Life without compassion only leads to destruction. I've said my peace.

8.9 Richter Scale Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan - 11 march 2011

I am intensely following the Live Feed from all over regarding this tragedy in Japan. And I am crying, really. I have a lot of friends there but I'm not sure where some of them actually stays. To see the tsunami ravage Sendai live on the news, to see people and cars, boat, house, all swept away like toys and the amount of damage done, I can't help feeling a foreboding sense of doom coming upon us. And then I found out a Volcano had erupted a few hours after the tsunami in Indonesia. The fact that there's been an increase of earthquake cases within the ring of fire and all these dreary news is more than my mind can comprehend.

I had to revert to Facebook to try to communicate with some of them but only one I know is alright, Lincoln Wright. His family is safe and he had helped his neighbours as well. God bless him.

I can only pray the rest are OK, but with the news that around 200-300 bodies were already found, and 88,000 still missing .... Oh Lord be merciful.

I'm done listening to the live feeds. Its depressing. So with the thought of those that have died, and families with missing ones, I urge one and all to pray for them. The earthquake that recently happened there was their biggest ever encountered for 100 years, and the third big one world wide.

A note to those who had recently made some purchases from Hobby Link Japan as well as Hobby Search, they were affected too and I'm not sure how bad as they are currently assesing their damages. You will need to give them some time to sort things there, and pray all of them including their families are OK.

Slithery guest are just not welcomed in my house - PERIOD!!!

Came home pretty late today since it was a busy day at the office, so by the time we reached home, it was almost 10:00pm. I was tired but pretty much in a good mood. So what greeted us when we reach home totally spoiled everything.

I saw my wife running toward me (I was still in the car) and she was freaking out. She kept pointing toward our front door and shouting "There's a snake at the door". I put the car on park, went to have a look, and saw it was a Frakking Spitting Cobra. It was coiled by the main door but behind the iron grille (which I had put up a plastic fence to prevent cats from coming in) separating it and my dog who were sleeping there earlier. By then my dog had moved, and it was hissing at me despite me keeping my distance.

By that time, my neighbours came, attracted by the commotion. One came with this huge big stick, tried to poke it out but that damn thing slithered into my house instead. He went in after it and before I could follow, I heard WHACK! WHACK! WHACK!

He came out with this .....

I thought it was a juvenile snake but when I saw it on the tip of the stick at over 3 feet long ....Holeeeeeee. Personally I detest killing of wild animals but I'm not messing around with a Spitting Cobra.

Apparently there had been numerous sightings at my housing area the past few years, and only last year my neighbour just across my house had killed one at his house. The poison is very neurotoxic, capable of destroying human tissues within seconds. It's poisonous spray is also capable of causing blindness. In this instance, I'm just grateful to my neighbour for his quick response for coming to my aid. If no one had come to help, I would have resorted to calling the Fire Department and wait.

Suffice to say it left my wife and me pretty much shaken. Just thinking about the possibility of one of these residing in my house just gives me the shivers. So I pretty much looked through the entire house with my Big Stick and Thank God I didn't see anymore.

So much for sleeping easy tonight.

UPDATE: I just found out another set of neighbours (Nepalese and Sabahan Security Guards renting out the house next to mine) went to look for the snake's carcass, took it back so they can cook it. YEEUCHHH!!! They say it has great ingredients for good health.

My Cat just gave Birth to a Kitten Today

YES!!! .. And I was there to watch the miracle of birth (so proud I didn't throw up too). Its not a sci fi topic but I spent like 2.5 hours with her, cleaning the surrounding area and making sure her "nest" was comfortable and well protected.

Her stomach was already so big the past few days and I had a hunch it was going to be anytime soon, so I prepared a nice animal plastic carrier for her, took out the door and made her a nice little nest. Did this about four days ago and its really so touching to see her getting the message and choosing to use that for her nest

I had actually wanted to do a comparison review of AMT Round 2's 1/537 scale Reliant and 1/1000 scale Enterprise B (Received the package today) but I didn't expect her to deliver today. Not sure why I'm feeling so proud, but it is a good feeling anyway.

Mother and Kitten lullaby

Hope she likes her new nest, my modified animal plastic carrier

Had to fence off the corner as she was a little too protective with my dog around (They got along fine but not sure now)

Lets hope this litter survives to adulthood. She already lost her last two. I'll do what I can to see that happen. Wonder if there will be anymore kittens coming. Her tummy still seem a little big. And I definitely need a shower.

These images were taken the next morning. Kitten is dark grey in colour but for such a small thing, she sure can meow out loud

Ok, Even I Get Conned Sometimes ....

A few years back I received this email regarding giant skeletons discovered by archaeologist. I remembered reading about giants in the bible, offspring's of fallen angels copulating with humans. David did do battle with Goliath .. even though it was a "short" fight. I had always thought the idea of this fallen angel-human combination was a good recipe for a science fiction flick (of course via faith, I know these really do exist) and then came the email with these images. I remembered the uproar it created amongst my colleagues.

A few weeks later, we discovered to our embarrassment ... it was a hoax. Story has it that these were created by a student taking a photoshop class, and as a project, they were suppose to "create" something that looked believable but yet everyone knows they're fake.

Sure fooled me, but I have to admit, the images are good reference for a nice diorama - hint hint.

AMT Round 2 is Not Producing Any Battlestar Galactica Kit

It has come to my attention that some people may have misunderstood one of my blog posting. In this particular case, it was said that I had somehow prematurely announced AMT Round 2's intention of producing and distributing a new Battlestar Galactica plastic model kit. The guilty post in question is located HERE.

Since then I have been bombarded with emails from overly excited friends regarding this, asking me where I got this highly classified and important information, to which all I want to say is ...... Whoa .. I checked that post. There isn't any mention of AMT there, in fact, the name is so clearly spelled out. Its Moebius. Yes, I wrote Moebius.

For the life of me, I can't figure out where and how AMT came into the picture, nor do I know how I came to be the source of this information. As far as I know, only Moebius has the license to produce and distribute kits from this new TV series.  AMT is not producing any Battlestar kits, and if they were going to ... they would have announced it over their blog.

So please allow me to put this news to rest. Its not true, I never said it ... and if you had believed this news and spread it .... well ........  don't get upset when the veterans laugh at ya.

So say we all.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

I have received some feedbacks on the image above and I discovered that some of you are pretty sharp. Let me clarify a few things:

1. The image above is indeed a hoax. I created it using Power Point and not photoshop to give it a "fake" outlook, and gave some crappy highlights like "Optional Landing Gears" when everyone knows the Galactica has none. Auto retractable Hangars??? Those that has assembled their kit knows this is not possible in reality. The body isn't big enough to completely take in the hangar pods.

2. I was hoping to "catch" that someone distributing that image (I have a nickname). Firstly when a friend told me AMT was coming out with the Bucket, I was a little confused. Then came the emails, and then more friends wanting to know if this was true, and when I queried them, apparently the source lead back to my blog posting which has no mention of AMT associated with the Galactica. Now I'm even more confused. Hence the fake picture with outrages claims to see if anyone fell for that. Guess it didn't since some of you saw right through it.

3. On the possibility that I may have inadvertently insulted both Moebius and AMT Round 2, then let me apologize first as this was not my intention. Just drop me a note and I'll remove the image.

OK, carry on. Just wanted to state the above for now.

Whooops .... I just hit my 1GB limit with Blogger ... Hello AdSense.

I was warned about this by friends who blog regularly. Funny thing was I wasn't able to find the usage warning anywhere whenever I posted a new blog, so I really had no idea how much space I've used up. And only just now I found out. There I was waiting patiently for a whole bunch of new images to upload when suddenly I got a notice "You have exceeded your free 1GB limit" ... ooops.

Looking at the situation here, I now have 3 choices:

1. I could create another Blogger Account, and call it "Bruce's Domain 2" ... but Naw, that would really sound like a cheesy movie sequel, and I'm just too lazy to keep track of multiple blog accounts. In fact, I already have 2 accounts. The other is a WIP which I am planning to revamp, and I need to do that soon too. Its been around for like a few months and there are only a total of 111 page views ... (blush). That's what happen when blogs gets neglected. Hence I'm planning to transfer the two contents (blush again) into this main blog, and dedicate that other one into perhaps a "How to ...." blog for scale modelers. Well, that's the plan anyway.

2. I could go back and delete off some of my earlier images ... but checking through the Stats, I have noticed a lot of scale modelers do depend on many of these images for their builds, or to help them make decisions to buy. Doing that would not only create inconveniences and disfavour, it would also defeat the very purpose why I set up this blog in the first place. So I think its better to just keep everything status quo.

3. OR .... I can subscribe for more space from Blogger.

Guess which one I chose.

Hence AdSense has made its presence here. Well, I do need to recover back some of the cost, or at least try to. I doubt I can make much with this having never tried it before, and its not something that's going to replace my present career anytime soon either. I do know some of you really abhor advertisements in blogs and with that respect, all I ask is that you bear it with me. Looking at the Ads ... well, its not really that big and irritating, and the one at the bottom of the first post really do look out of place. I'll see if I can have that moved further down the page later - no promises. Right now I'm not even sure how it works. Here's having a go at it.

Welcoming 2011 - Challenges and All

Its officially 31st December today in Malaysia and come tomorrow, the new year begins. 2010 has been a hell of a roller coaster ride for me and I'm sure for others as well, but it does have its moments. Far be it for me to reminence on what transpired in 2010 cause to me, what's done is done, period, finitto. Now its time to look ahead to 2011, face whatever challenge that comes my way, and pray real hard this new year will be better than the last. And my prayer to all my viewers as well for 2011

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful year ahead, with lots of health, wealth and blah blah blah .. you know, the usual season greetings. And since this is a scale modeler blog, I also wish that many of you will be able to get those kits you were vying for, build them ... and let me highlight them here .. HAHAHA!

In case any of you are wondering, 2011 is the year of the Bunnies .... no, no, not those Bunnies

This one. Its Rabbit year. The year to get cuddly and cute.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
